Xhorse Dolphin II XP-005L Cannot Complete Cutting Calibration—What Should I Do?

Today, we received a question from a customer:

“My Xhorse Dolphin II XP-005L cannot complete the cutting calibration. The machine displays a calibration error and can no longer cut keys. What should I do?”

The customer initially suspected that the problem was caused by the battery because the machine could only power on when the charger was connected.

However, after further testing, we found that the battery problem and the cutting calibration problem needed to be diagnosed separately.

Step 1: Confirm the Exact Symptoms

Before replacing any parts, check which of the following situations applies.

Situation A: The Machine Only Works with the Charger Connected

If the XP-005L switches off immediately after disconnecting the charger, the possible causes include:

  • Defective battery pack
  • Battery protection mode
  • Faulty BMS board
  • Loose battery connector
  • Abnormal battery charging or output voltage

This is mainly a battery power-supply problem.

Situation B: The Machine Powers On but Cannot Complete Cutting Calibration

If the machine starts normally but displays a cutting calibration error or cannot continue cutting, the problem may be related to:

  • Outdated firmware
  • Incorrect clamp installation
  • Motor or sensor communication
  • Loose internal connection
  • Main control board or power detection circuit

This is not necessarily caused by the battery itself.

Step 2: Retry the Cutting and Clamp Calibration

Before opening the machine, try the basic recovery procedure:

  1. Connect the original power adapter.
  2. Restart the XP-005L.
  3. Update the Xhorse application, firmware and database.
  4. Make sure the correct clamp is installed securely.
  5. Clean the clamp and calibration area.
  6. Run the clamp calibration again.
  7. Run the cutting calibration again.

Keep the machine connected to a stable power supply throughout the calibration.

If the calibration is completed successfully, test the machine with a blank key before returning to normal work.

Step 3: Check Whether It Is a Battery or BMS Problem

If the machine cannot operate without the charger, the battery and BMS board should be tested separately.

A technician can open the bottom cover and inspect:

  • Battery connection
  • BMS board condition
  • Battery output voltage
  • Charging voltage
  • Signs of burning, corrosion or damaged components

The machine’s serial number should also be provided because different production batches may use different BMS board versions.

Do not replace the battery only because the machine cannot calibrate. A battery fault normally affects power supply, while a cutting calibration error may come from another circuit.

Step 4: Inspect the Current-Sensing Circuit

In this case, the battery could be charged, but the machine still could not complete cutting calibration or cut keys correctly.

After checking the circuit board, the problem was traced to the current-sensing area of the board.

The highlighted component is a low-resistance current-sensing resistor. If this component is damaged or its value is abnormal, the control board may receive incorrect current information.

This can cause:

  • Cutting calibration failure
  • Cutting communication errors
  • Abnormal motor protection
  • The machine stopping before or during cutting

For the affected board, the repair solution involved replacing the original sampling resistor with the specified replacement component:

  • Resistance: 2 mΩ
  • Package: 2512
  • Power rating: 1 W

This repair requires professional soldering and electrical testing equipment. It s

hould not be attempted by the end user.

Installing an incorrect resistor, creating a solder bridge or damaging the PCB may cause additional faults.

Final Solution

If the XP-005L still cannot calibrate after the software, clamp and connection checks, send the following information to your seller or Xhorse technical support:

  • Machine serial number
  • Photo of the calibration error
  • Video showing the complete calibration process
  • Whether the machine works without the charger
  • Photos of the battery BMS board and main circuit board, if requested
  • Firmware and application versions

If the current-sensing circuit is confirmed to be defective, the recommended solution is to return the faulty board or machine for professional repair or board replacement.

Important

Do not open the machine or replace components before receiving confirmation from your seller or Xhorse support. Unauthorized disassembly or soldering may affect the warranty.
