Xhorse Dolphin II XP-005L Occasionally Shows Error Code 43—What Should I Do?
Today, we received a question from a customer:
“My Xhorse Dolphin II XP-005L occasionally displays Error Code 43 during cutting calibration. The machine can still cut keys normally. How can I solve this problem?”
The machine displays:
Error Code: 43
Error, please confirm cutter diameter. Make sure blade is clear enough and do cutting calibration again.
Error Code 43 generally means that the machine could not correctly detect contact during cutting calibration. The cause may be related to the cutter, clamp, conductivity or calibration setup.
Step 1: Confirm the Cutter Diameter
Check whether the cutter installed on the machine matches the cutter diameter selected in the XP-005L menu.
An incorrect diameter setting may cause the cutter to reach the wrong calibration position and trigger Error Code 43.
Also check that:
- The correct cutter is installed.
- The cutter is inserted to the correct depth.
- The cutter locking screw is tight.
- The cutter is not bent, worn or damaged.
Step 2: Check the Cutter and Clamp Clearance
Before starting cutting calibration, make sure the cutter has enough clearance and is not already touching the clamp or calibration point.
Remove any key blank from the clamp and check that:
- The clamp is installed correctly.
- The clamp surface is clean.
- There are no metal chips around the cutter or probe.
- The cutter and probe can move freely.
- Nothing blocks the movement of the X-, Y- or Z-axis.
After cleaning the working area, restart the machine and perform the cutting calibration again.
Step 3: Perform a Conductivity Test
The XP-005L uses electrical contact detection during calibration. Poor conductivity between the cutter, probe, clamp and machine body may result in an intermittent calibration error.
Perform a conductivity test according to the technical support video.
Check the electrical continuity between the indicated test points:
During the test:
- Switch off the machine before connecting the multimeter.
- Set the multimeter to continuity or resistance mode.
- Make sure the probes contact clean, unpainted metal surfaces.
- Check whether the reading remains stable while gently moving the cables and connectors.
If conductivity is unstable, inspect the related cables, connectors, screws and grounding points for looseness, oxidation or contamination.
Step 4: Clean the Contact Surfaces
Even if the continuity test appears normal, oil, dust or metal debris can sometimes cause intermittent contact during calibration.
Clean the following parts carefully:
- Cutter surface
- Probe tip
- Clamp surface
- Calibration contact point
- Clamp mounting area
- Related metal connection points
Use a clean, dry cloth or suitable electrical-contact cleaner. Do not leave oil on the calibration contact surfaces.
Step 5: Update and Recalibrate the Machine
Connect the machine to a stable power supply and check for available Xhorse updates.
Update:
- XP-005L firmware
- Database
- Xhorse application or system software
Restart the machine after updating, then perform:
- Clamp calibration
- Cutting calibration
- A test cut using a blank key
Do not move the clamp or touch the cutter while calibration is running.
What If Conductivity Is Normal?
In this customer’s case, the conductivity test was normal and the machine could still perform normal cutting operations, even though cutting calibration occasionally failed.
This suggests that the problem may be intermittent rather than a complete failure of the cutting system.
If Error Code 43 only appears occasionally:
- Clean the cutter, probe and clamp.
- Confirm the cutter diameter.
- Check and tighten the clamp and cutter.
- Restart the machine.
- Run the calibration again.
- Record a complete video if the error returns.
Do not replace the battery, BMS board or main control board based only on Error Code 43.
Is the Battery Problem Related to Error Code 43?
The customer also reported that the battery stopped charging after approximately six months of use.
However, these two symptoms should be diagnosed separately:
- Error Code 43: Usually related to cutter diameter, calibration clearance, conductivity or contact detection.
- Battery not charging: May be related to the battery pack, BMS board, charger, connector or charging circuit.
A machine that operates normally when connected to the charger may still have a defective battery, but this does not automatically mean that the battery caused Error Code 43.
Information Required for Technical Support
If the error continues, please send the following information to your seller:
- Machine serial number
- Clear photo of Error Code 43
- Complete video of the cutting calibration process
- Conductivity test video
- Cutter diameter and cutter type
- Clamp model and installation position
- Current firmware and software versions
- Whether the error occurs every time or only occasionally
- Whether normal key cutting can still be completed
- Whether the machine works after disconnecting the charger
These details will help technical support distinguish between a setup issue, an intermittent contact problem and a possible hardware fault.
